Deloraine House is a fine example early 20th century architecture and is an elegant 2 storey building. The 3,500 acre estate is in a magnificent location on the western edge of the Great Rift Valley, on the lower slopes of Mount Londiani. It is about 90 minutes away from Nairobi and about a 45 minute drive from Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for its flamingos and rhino. Deloraine is the home of Tristan and Cindy Voorspuy. It is full of Kenya's fascinating history. Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, came to stay here on a number of occasions. Built by Lord Francis Scott in 1920, a prominent early settler instrumental in developing farms throughout Kenya and set in 3500 acres of farm, it is one of the finest examples of colonial architecture in Kenya. Your time here will reflect the elegant lifestyle of a bygone era. Tristan and Lucinda Voorspuy have lived here for over 15 years with their two children. Immaculately run by Cindy, guests are welcome to join in with the house party atmosphere. Upstairs there are 3 large bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms and a further 2 bedrooms suitable for a family wanting to share a bathroom. Downstairs the large drawing room and dining room provide the ideal setting for a house party with an outside veranda that overlooks the beautiful tropical gardens. There is also a cottage adjacent to the house with 3 separate double en-suite rooms. Deloraine House has fine tropical gardens which include a croquet lawn and a tennis court, both available for guests to use. There is also stabling for up to 80 horses and guests are welcome to ride around the farm and the nearby mountain, enjoying the spectacular views across the surrounding countryside. Alternatively the area can be explored on foot and the owners are happy to take guests on local walks.
